George III brass petal base candlesticks with twist up mechanism.
Product Description
Pair of brass eighteenth century petal base candlesticks with shell decoration to the base. The hollow cast stems are decorated with fine lines.The stems are fitted with a twist-up(to eject the used candle stub)mechanism which is not working.Condition of both candlesticks is good(one candlestick leans a little). These candlesticks were probably made in Birmingham circa 1770. For similar examples see “DOMESTIC METALWORK 1640-1820” by Rupert Gentle & Rachael Feild revised by Belinda Gentle. Pages 147 & 153.
